So after 17 years of being on the airwaves, Forced Fm has been closed down. I spoke to DJ Shorty who had a sunday show on it who told me, he was extremely disappointed and explained it will never be the same.

The only station that can boast that claim is RinseFM which has just had it’s 17th Birthday.  As someone who used to run a pirate radio station, I understanding the effort and dedication that goes into managing such a self motivated project.  Although it does make me wonder if and what power pirate radio stations like Force Fm have towards the music industry, or has digital radio, ipods and the freedom of youtube taken over?

This is what Force FM’s Website says:

After a remarkable 17 years of service, we regretfully announce that Force FM has ceased broadcasting. Started in 1994, the station has notched up a remarkable 17 years of transmission, making it arguably the UK’s longest serving pirate radio station.

We would like to thank all of the listeners, DJs, hosts, vocalists and everyone else behind the scenes that made Force the great station it will always be remembered as.

Force FM has not been sold and will not be replaced. This really is the end. Respect and love, the Force FM team.
